Longevity of All-on-4® Treatment Concept
Portland, OR

Smiling man after he received the All-on-4 treatment concept at Malmquist Oral and Maxillofacial SurgeryIf you take care of them properly, All-On-4 dental implants can last for decades and even for the rest of one’s life. However, the longevity of All-on 4 can vary depending on the patient’s overall health and age, along with the placement and quality of the implants and how well the patient cares for them.

Cost Concerns

Cost is an important factor in choosing an option for tooth replacement. Because All-on 4 implants allow you to replace an arch of teeth on just four implants, they are a much better deal than replacing each missing tooth individually.

However, despite that, All-on 4 is costly. Some people, wanting to save money, opt for bargain implants. However, these bargain implants frequently have cheap implant fixtures or corner-cutting in the planning and placement stages. This can cause the implants to come loose and fail. Bargain implants are unlikely to last for decades.

Factors that Affect how Long All-on-4 Lasts

A variety of factors affect the longevity of All-on 4 dentures.

Age of the Patient

If a younger person loses all or several of his teeth prematurely and gets All-on 4 dental implants, he may end up having to replace the implants later in life. This is normal. Also, even though the dental implant poles we insert into the bone can last for a long time, the crowns or dentures secured to the implants may need periodic replacements, depending on your lifespan.

General Health and Oral Health

You must have good dental health and good overall health for the implants to last. If you have poor dental hygiene after getting All-on 4 or another kind of dental implants, they can fail. Formation of plaque and tartar can cause periodontal disease and bone loss, leading to implant failure.

Bruxism (teeth grinding) puts excessive force on dental implants and crowns and reduces their longevity. The dental implants also won’t heal properly if the patient has uncontrolled diabetes.

If you smoke before implant surgery or during the recovery period, you can disrupt the healing process and cause the implants to fail. Drinking alcohol causes dry mouth, potentially allowing bacteria to prosper. It also causes blood vessels to dilate, which can hinder the healing period as well.

Maintaining the Longevity of your All-on 4 Implants

In conclusion, All-on 4 dental implants are proven to demonstrate remarkable resilience and longevity. However, we must make it clear that the success of your All-on 4 implants doesn’t depend on statistics or luck. You must actively take care of your implants to make sure they last. Here are some things you can do.

Proper Maintenance Techniques

You care for your implant dentures similarly to how you take care of your normal teeth. Namely, brush and floss them twice a day and carefully clean around the dentures in the way we instruct you to. Schedule biannual dental exams and professional cleanings, as this will allow us to clean your teeth in ways you cannot and detect problems early on before they worsen.

Diet and Lifestyle

Your overall health is connected to your overall health. Like your natural teeth, your dental implants rely on your bones. Bones need proper nutrition and constant stimulation to stay healthy, grow, and retain their density.

You should steer away from diets of processed, soft foods and instead eat a variety of nutritious and fresh foods. Your bones need vitamin D, so make sure to get a good amount of sun, which causes your body to produce that vitamin. Also get plenty of exercises, which will improve your circulation to keep your bones in good health.
